With hearts full of gratitude and sorrow, we announce the passing of Susan Lancet Ebbs, age 82, who died on May 15, 2026, at her home in Carleton Willard Village in Bedford, MA.
Susan was born on August 14, 1943, in Memphis, TN, to Anne M. and William K. Lancet. She was raised along with her two brothers, Bruce and Bill, in Indianapolis, IN. Susan graduated from Purdue University in1965, where she majored in biology and met lifelong friends in the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Susan later earned a master’s degree in genetics from the University of Washington and a doctorate in education from the Teachers College, Columbia University. From there, she built her 40 year career in college administration, most notably at ManhattanCollege and St. John’s University. She found her community in her work life while raising her two daughters with her then husband, George Ebbs,in New Canaan, CT.
From the very beginning, Susan read everything. She found wisdom, peace, and joy in books throughout her life. Her devotion to birds compelled her to trek out in the snow to fill the feeder just for a glimpse of her beloved cardinals. Her love of plants had her toiling happily in herback yard garden, doting on a wide array of houseplants and admiring flowers wherever she went.
She loved her grandchildren dearly and looked forward to every moment with them.
Susan is remembered for her sharp intellect, her extraordinary strength, and her quiet resolve to keep fighting - for her dearest friends, for her family, for herself, and for those who she somehow knew needed someone to believe in them. She simply never gave up.
She is survived by her daughters, Stacey Ebbs Beuttell of Lexington, MA,and Cindy Ebbs of Brooklyn, NY, and their father, George Ebbs, Jr., of Williamsburg, VA; grandchildren, Sarah Beuttell, Derek Beuttell and Annika Langendoen; sons-in-law Kevin Beuttell and David Langendoen; brother William Lancet, Jr. of Warrenville, IL; and nephews David Christopher Lancet, Joshua Lancet and Kyle Lancet. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Anne and William Lancet, and her brother, Bruce Lancet.
A celebration of her life is planned for 10:00am on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at First Parish in Bedford, located at 75 Great Rd, Bedford, MA. All are welcome. For those unable to attend in person, a live stream of the service will be available – details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in memory of Susan to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to help those living with MS.
