Sebastian "Butch" Marcus, age 90, passed away on July 10, 2022. He was born on June 27, 1932 and was the son of the late John and Rose Marcus. Butch was raised in Port Washington, NY with his sister Josephine and brother Paul. He joined the U.S. Navy after high school and proudly served during the Korean War. Following his military service, he married his beloved Patricia and started a family in Port Washington, NY.
Employment brought Butch and his family to Bedford. Butch, an electric engineer, was employed by Nixdorf Computer Corporation. During his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Patricia and visiting friends and family in Florida and Long Island, NY. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Butch was an active member in his community. He was a member of Bedford VFW Post 1682, American Legion Post 221, he served on the Town of Bedford Patriotic Holiday Committee, and he volunteered almost 6,000 hours at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital.
Butch was a very special person. He was a quiet man with a positive disposition on life. He was forever a NY sports team fan, especially when it came his beloved NY Yankees. He was loved by all and he will be deeply missed.
In addition to leaving his wife Patricia with whom he shared 64 years of marriage, he leaves his daughter Patricia Vlachos of Stoneham, his son Peter Marcus of Newport, NH, and son Paul Marcus and his wife Kristin of Bedford. Butch was the cherished grandfather of Peter, Nicholas, Gina, Catherine, and Robert; and great-grandfather of P.J. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in Shawsheen Funeral Home on Friday July 15th from 4-7PM. Procession from Shawsheen Funeral Home on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass in the Chapel of the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, 200 Springs Road, Building 81 in Bedford at 10AM followed by a burial service in Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford. Family and friends are invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to VA Bedford, General Post Fund 9001.
