Phyllis J. Fannin, age 77 of Greer, South Carolina, passed away on December 23, 2021.
Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on February 6, 1944, daughter of the late Frank P. and Phyllis J. Martines, Phyllis soon became known as "Dolly" to family and friends. The nickname followed her through childhood, growing up in Bedford, where her family owned and operated the Blue Ribbon Dairy. Dolly loved and excelled at ballet, and later, when her family relocated to Chelmsford where she graduated from Chelmsford High, she followed in the Martines family tradition by developing a love for cars. Hard working from a young age, she eventually saved enough while working at Liberty Mutual Insurance in Chelmsford to purchase her dream car, a new ocean mist colored 1965 Oldsmobile 442 convertible. She always beamed sharing stories about her "four on the floor."
In 1974, Phyllis bravely moved to California to start a new life on the West Coast. She first landed in Mill Valley and then settled in Danville where she raised her children. Phyllis poured her heart and soul into being an incredible mother and homemaker. She was a swim and soccer mom, expert chef, taxi driver, nurse, tutor, cheerleader, referee and confidant. She also worked outside the home at San Ramon Valley Christian Academy as a teacher and later at Safeco Insurance.
Phyllis then met the love of her life, Carl. In 1994, they married in a beautiful ceremony surrounded by family and friends while cruising the San Francisco Bay.
Upon retirement in 2000, Phyllis and Carl moved to Greer where they resided for the past 20 years, enjoying being close to her youngest son, George, and the many new friends they made there.
Phyllis will be lovingly remembered by her friends and family. She was beautiful inside and out, a kind and loving woman, dedicated to being a wonderful mother, wife and friend. She loved nothing more than to make others happy and she did that in so many ways. She was an amazing cook and baker, loved her hydrangea garden, the New England Patriots and spending time with her loved ones. She was smart, hardworking and loved to laugh. The sparkle in her blue green eyes and her beautiful smile could light up any room.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Carl Fannin; son, Edward Talbot and his wife, Susanne; daughter, Michelle Talbot-Danehy and her husband, Steve Danehy; son, George Lutkitz and his wife Alaina; stepchildren, Todd Fannin and his wife, Allison, and Scott Fannin; grandchildren, Edward "EJ" Talbot, James Talbot and Cooper Danehy; step-grandchildren, Keeley and Jaxson Fannin; sister, Lillian McDonough and brother, Frank "Junior" Martines. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents and her brother James "Jimmy" Martines.
