Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Linda S. Tomczykowski. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, and departed this world at the age of 73 on July 4, 2024, surrounded by her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering strength.

Linda was born on January 31, 1951, in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in a loving home where she developed her strong sense of compassion and dedication to helping others as her parents had done while serving in the Salvation Army. After graduating from Somerville High School, Linda attended the Somerville School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1971.

During her distinguished nursing career at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, Linda touched countless lives with her caring demeanor and unwavering commitment to her patients. During her 43 years of dedication to helping others, Linda held several positions. She began as a Nurse in the emergency room, followed by her promotion to Nursing Supervisor, and ended her professional years of service as the Clinical Coordinator of the Retina Clinic.

Linda's caring for others extended beyond her professional life. She was an active member of her community and volunteered her time as a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the Bedford American Legion, Post 221 where she also made some very dear friends over the years. Her vibrant spirit and beautiful smile lit up every room she entered, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Family was at the center of Linda's life. She and her husband Richard shared 48 wonderful years of marriage. Linda was a devoted mother to her three children,  Laurie, Richard and Alan, and instilled in them the values of integrity, compassion, and hard work. Her cherished grandchildren, Kaylin, Finley and Brooks were her greatest joys in life. She adored them beyond measure and took immense pride in their accomplishments, happily bragging to anyone who would listen as she shared pictures and stories of all that they had done. Linda was a familiar face on the sidelines of countless sporting events, where she enthusiastically cheered on her grandchildren with unwavering support. Whether it was soccer matches, football or basketball games, Linda was there with her biggest "Mimmi" smile and her heart full of love. She was looking forward to seeing her granddaughter Kaylin head to college and play soccer at Assumption University in the fall, with much pride and excitement. Her many trips to North Carolina to visit with her grandchildren Finley and Brooks brought her great happiness. Her grandchildren will remember her as their biggest fan, always offering encouragement and celebrating their victories, big and small. Linda's presence was a source of comfort and inspiration to them, instilling in them a deep sense of love and belonging that will endure forever.

Linda's legacy of kindness, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind a community deeply touched by her generosity, and a family profoundly grateful for her love.

Linda was the beloved daughter of Eugene F. McCarthy Sr. and Joan R. (Cameron) McCarthy, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Tomczykowski; her daughter, Laurie and her husband John; her son Richard and his wife Adrienne; and her son Alan and his wife Mallory; her grandchildren Kaylin Rose, Finley Rose and Brooks Richard; and her brother Eugene F. McCarthy Jr. She was the sister of Bruce McCarthy, who preceded her in death and his surviving husband Roland.
