IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Kendrick G.
Bushnell
July 8, 1929 – February 18, 2024
Ending a remarkable life devoted to family, friends and community, Kendrick George Bushnell, age 94, of Bedford passed away peacefully on February 18, 2024 surrounded by family and three days after the passing of his beloved wife and life's companion of 68 years, Marcia M. Bushnell.
Born in Melrose in 1929, Ken was a lifelong resident of Lexington where he married Marcia M. Bushnell in 1955. They later moved to Bedford in 2003. He and Marcia also treasured time at their seasonal home in Strafford, VT on land once owned by his grandfather and where the family still gathers surrounded by the community, family history and natural beauty found there.
Ken graduated from Boston University in 1951 and received his MBA from Northeastern University in 1958. He was a Commissioned Lieutenant in the United States Air Force assigned to Europe under the NATO Agreement. His career included 26 years with the United-Carr Fastener Divisions of TRW, from which he retired in 1987 and, subsequently, as a Management Consultant to several New England firms. He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Lexington Savings Bank, a Director of Affiliated Community Bancorp Corporation and a Director of UST Corporation.
A man with a deep and abiding faith, Ken was an active lifetime member of Hancock United Church of Christ in Lexington and for many decades at the United Church of Strafford in Strafford, VT. He shared his many talents in both leadership, committee and service project roles. He was also active in Boy Scout Troop 119 and served as a Trustee of the Isaac Harris Cary Educational Fund.
Ken's interest in genealogy led to writing and self-publishing six books on family history and others on his career and military service. He especially loved time with family and organized and led adventures including: hiking in the White Mountains and Glacier National Park, canoeing the Allagash and St. John Rivers, and rafting Utah's Salmon River. Ken was a devoted and caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather whose encouragement, support and example left a strong legacy of deep and rich family ties. His devotion to his wife, Marcia, and their partnership in all things, was fully realized in their close passings.
Ken will be sorely missed by his family including three deeply grateful children and their spouses: Catherine B. Bowden married to Kenneth W. Bowden; Robert A. Bushnell married to Jean Ambika Bushnell; and Steven E. Bushnell married to Monica S. Bushnell. He will be lovingly remembered by seven grandchildren: Thomas M. Bowden and his spouse Charlotte C. Bowden; Matthew R. Bushnell and his spouse Melissa C. Bushnell; Melanie Bowden; Sara B. Pelczar and her spouse Kyle E. Pelczar; Benjamin A. Bushnell; Marshall P. Bushnell; Anita M. Bushnell; and five great grandchildren. Ken is also survived by his brother Lewis W. Bushnell of Cambridge, MA. and many loved nieces and nephews.
A gathering of remembrance for both Ken and his wife, Marcia will be held in Shawsheen Funeral Home on March 2, 2024 from 2pm to 5pm. The family is planning a memorial service and private interment for late spring in Strafford, VT.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's memory may be made to the United Church of Strafford, P.O. Box 124, Strafford, VT 05072.
