IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph J.
Luna
February 3, 1947 – January 5, 2026
Joseph John "Joe" Luna, age 78, passed away on January 5, 2026, after recently residing at the Edith Nourse Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford.
Joe was a resident of Ipswich, Massachusetts in his later years, where he lived with his beloved wife, Evelyn Mears Luna (Galvin), and also spent much of the year in Kissimmee, Florida.
Joe proudly served his country as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970, including active-duty combat service in Vietnam. His military service was a source of quiet pride throughout his life, and he later found camaraderie and support within the veteran community. Following his service, Joe worked for many years with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). He was a dedicated employee and eventually retired from his post on the Blue Line, earning the respect of coworkers for his reliability and strong work ethic.
Joe especially cherished his time in Florida, where he enjoyed spending time with the many friends he made at Cypress Cove. Known affectionately as "Boston Joe" by his friends there, he will be remembered for his great sense of humor, Joe loved to laugh and make others laugh as well. That playful spirit began early in life. Joe grew up on Mission Hill in Roxbury, Massachusetts, with his five siblings and his parents, Marion and Frederick Luna. He was well-known as a bit of a prankster, a trait that stayed with him and became part of what people loved most about him.
Joe valued family above all else. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Mears Luna (Galvin); and his stepchildren: Laura Hart (Mears); Cynthia Cutter (Mears) and her husband, Brian Cutter; Walter D. Mears; and Jason Hart. He was a proud grandfather to Olivia, William, Andrew, Irene, Laila, Cody, and Zoey, each of whom brought him great joy.
Joe was be cremated and services will be held at a later date. Those wishing to remember Joe may make donations in his name to the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center, or to their local American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) organization. Joe will be remembered for his service, his humor, his dedication to family, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
