John "Johnny" DeCaprio Jr., of Bedford, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, June 27th, 2024, at the age of 84. Son of the late John DeCaprio Sr and Tina DeCaprio (Sorgente) of Arlington, John was the youngest of three siblings. He was the brother of the late Eugene DeCaprio and wife Lila of Bedford and the late Eleanor Thompson and her husband Russ of Arlington.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan DeCaprio (Turner), formally of Melrose. Loving father to Jeffrey DeCaprio and his wife Stacey of Littleton and Kristin DeCaprio of Nashua, NH. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher, Courtney, Nicolas and Jessika, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

John graduated from Arlington High School in 1957 and went on to join the Army National Guard, where he served for seven years during the Vietnam era. He attended Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute and Boston University. He worked as a Project Technician at MIT Lincoln Laboratory for 43 years and retired in 2002. In his younger years, he enjoyed going hunting up north with his friends. He loved spending his summers at the family cottage on Plum Island, enjoying boating, fishing and especially gathering with family and friends. He was also an avid Corvette and car enthusiast and loved going to car shows with his grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held in Shawsheen Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 2, 2024  5pm to 7pm. The funeral procession leaves Shawsheen Funeral Home on Wednesday July 3, 2024 at 9:30am; a Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael's Church, 90 Concord Road, Bedford at 10am. Burial in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford to follow. Family and friends kindly invited.
