Obituary

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend Joan A. (Fuller) Freeman, affectionately known as Mimi and Joanie, passed away peacefully at age 90. She was the loving wife of the late Charles R. Freeman, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. Joan was born to the late Anne (Heffernan) and Austin L. Fuller of Arlington, Massachusetts. She attended Arlington public schools and then earned a degree from LaSalle Junior College in Newton.

She and her husband Charles (Richie) lived most of their lives and raised their three boys in Bedford. When the boys were younger, Joan ran a daycare in her home. Then she enjoyed a very successful career in specialty gift sales.

Her hobbies and interests were many. She was an avid sports fan. She loved attending her sons' and grandchildren's hockey, soccer, track, dance, and golf competitions. When not watching her beloved Boston Red Sox, Bruins, UConn and Greenville Swamp Rabbits hockey, she could be found baking her famous cookies, gardening, making blankets and Facebook perusing.

Joanie had a strong love of family and friends, always happy to hear about their lives and proud of their accomplishments. Hosting family and friends was one of her greatest joys. Joanie had the gift of gab, was a great storyteller, and no stranger to her telephone.

Some of her fondest memories were of her yearly vacations with Richie to Anna Maria Island, Florida, where she made many new lifelong friends. Closer to home, she also treasured her visits to the shops and beaches of Rockport, Cape Cod and Maine.

After moving from her home, of 56 years in Bedford, Joanie loved her time and was thriving at The Residence at Bedford where she made many new friends in the residents and employees alike.

Joanie cherished her three sons and four grandchildren: Mark and his partner Jo Ann Swartz, of Redington Beach, FL; Dennis and his wife Barbara, and their children, Alyssa and Lily, of Billerica; and Paul and his wife Theresa, and their children, Ben and Jack, of Falmouth, ME. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she leaves her brother Robert and his wife Joyce, of CA, her beloved nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Our Mimi will be remembered for her bright shining personality, kindness, generosity and joy. A woman of strong faith and passionate about friendships, she had many lifelong friends. Joanie will be missed by many but is now reunited with her beloved Richie.
