Obituary

Gina A. (Umanita) DiMattia passed away peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA on November 29, 2022. Born on March 27, 1954 to  Carmella (Vicky) Umanita and the late Joseph (Joe) Umanita, they adored their daughter, showering her with love and support throughout her life.

Raised by a large and loving family, she grew up in Bedford, graduating from Bedford High School and then Salem State College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Gina was a preschool teacher for many years and cherished the opportunity to develop and nurture each student. Gina was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in her 40's, however she never let it get the best of her. She had a warrior spirit and remained committed to an active and healthy lifestyle. She later battled an injury that left her paralyzed from the waist down, and again she stood strong in the face of opposition while her unwavering faith and continuous positivity carried her gracefully through.

Gina had a heart of gold and would make friends wherever she went, often helping others by lending a kind ear and positive perspective. She touched and inspired many people through her genuine compassion, perseverance and vibrant personality.

Gina deeply loved her family and enjoyed time spent with them the most. She is survived by her mother, Vicky Umanita; her son Joseph C. Uliano and his wife Vanessa of Wenham, MA; her daughter Tiffany D. DeCain and her fiance Andrew Menard of Goffstown, NH; six grandchildren: Anthony, Lorenzo, Cassius, Ellias, Maximus and Leonardo and her brother Anthony J. Umanita and his wife Hope of Merrimack, NH.

Visiting Hours will be held in Shawsheen Funeral Home, 281 Great Road, Bedford, MA on Sunday, December 4, 2022 from 4 to 7pm. Her funeral Mass will be held in St. Michael Parish, 90 Concord Rd, Bedford, MA on Monday at 10am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gina's name to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, Attn: Donor Relations, 375 Kings Highway North, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034, https://mymsaa.org/
