David Roland Young passed away on June 9th, 2024 at Lahey Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Catherine Grace (Nutter) Young. They shared over 60 wonderful years of marriage together.

David was born in Bedford and is preceded in death by his parents, Roland Axel Young and Anna Charlotte (Fougstedt) Young, and his sister Sandra Ann (Young) Musselman.

He graduated from Bedford High School in 1961. In his first years of work, David proudly served in the United States Army where he was a Chief Warrant Officer. He then moved on to be a radio technician for the United States National Guard, stationed at Fort Devens. In total, he served in the United States military for 26 years. Then, for 36 years, David was a civil engineer for the United States government, where he worked on different security systems for Air Force bases across the country and internationally.

David was a member of Frank W. Thompson Masonic Lodge in Bedford for 48 years. He was RT. Worshipful District Deputy Grand Master of the Somerville Six and Worshipful Master of Frank W. Thompson Lodge. He was an advisor for the Rainbow for Girls and Demolay for Boys. He was also involved with the Danny Oates Memorial road race, which is running for 25 years, to support scholarships for High School Seniors. During his time as a Mason, David has made memorable impact and incredible friendships that will be cherished forever.

David enjoyed spending time with his beautiful wife, whether it was at their camper in Barre or working at home in their yard. He loved to be with his children and grandchildren, where we shared so many memories, laughs and the occasional board game. He was an avid dog lover, he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, golfing and just having a good conversation.

David had such a big impact on many people. He was a gentle, sweet man which many admired.

He is survived by his children, son John Robert Young SR, and his wife Nichole Elizabeth (Mabardy) Young of Townsend, his daughter Robin Marie (Young) Linehan, and her late husband Richard Matthew Linehan of Templeton, his son William Roland Young, and his wife Karen Sandra (Gatchell) Young of Woburn and his daughter, Rebecca Jo Young of Bedford. David had five amazing grandchildren, who knew him as Bumpa: Noelle Elizabeth Young, John Robert Young JR, Melanie Erin Garofalo, Ashlee Grace Young and Jesse Roland Young. David is also survived by many sister/brother in-laws and nieces and nephews whom he loved. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

Calling hours will be on Thursday June 13th from 4-8pm in Shawsheen Funeral Home. There will also be a Masonic Service starting at 7pm, where David's 48 years as a Mason will be honored.
