Cary Calvin Eggerling, 64, of Cambridge passed away peacefully with his beloved wife Therese by his side on Monday July 10, 2023, after bravely facing a cancer diagnosis and many treatments. Cary was a devoted husband, uncle, brother, son, friend, neighbor and co-worker.
Cary grew up in Pennsylvania and attended the Goddard School and Perkiomen schools, and graduated from Antioch College in 1981 with a B.A. degree in History and Communications.
Cary was a member of IATSE Local 481 beginning in August 2919 until his passing. He was a talented Propmaker/Carpenter who worked on Dexter, Defending Jacob, Hubie Halloween, Castle Rock S2, Society S1 & S2, Mother/Android, Shrine, Salem's Lot, and Boston Strangler and Archive, among other projects. Cary's scenery career began at the Boston Children's Museum, building interactive exhibits, bringing joy to children from around the world. Under the guidance of his Father Robert Eggerling was studying the art of forging Damascus steel.
Cary was an expert in historic window restoration and fine carpentry. He was part of the team that restored the historic Colonial James Barrett Farm in Concord, MA for the National Park Service. The Home was built in 1705 and restored to its original details and was featured on This Old House. He believed that we should "Preserve the unreplaceable". In addition to creating his own art, Cary worked supporting other artists installing their artwork for exhibits and gallery shows. Cary was a volunteer, he helped his wife Therese with many projects that enriched the lives of her kindergarten students. Including building water and sand tables and large wall easels in her early childhood classroom. In addition to his work in film, Cary was a poet, a fine artist, and a master woodworker. Cary was a talented chef and was always willing to make a beautiful meal for friends and family. Cary was the Superintendent of his apartment building and was beloved by tenants who could count on him to problem solve in any circumstance.
Cary was a naturalist and avid Hiker, Therese dropped him off at the highest peak in Maine MT. Katahdin and he hiked the long trail for three weeks to its completion. They also summited MT Washington together four times. Cary enjoyed many hiking adventures with his friends. Cary built Bat houses and believed in wildlife preservation. He allowed his beloved wife to rescue many unwanted creatures and happily built habitats to suit them. Cary has left a legacy of kindness, love and compassion.
In addition to his loving wife Therese, Cary leaves his Father Robert Eggerling of PA. Sister Phoebe Eggerling of CO. Uncle Sam Calvin of PA, brother in law John Bellino of VA. and Sister in Law Annette Bellino of VA, Nephews Ian, Evan and Eric Bellino of VA, Mother in law Ann Bellino, half siblings Adam, Ivy and Carrie and many beloved cousins. Cary is predeceased by his Mother Constance Calvin and Stepmother Betsy Eggerling and his Father in law Joe Bellino.
