Obituary

Barbara Genetti Bailey, age 81, of Lexington, passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center on Sunday, April 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born in Cambridge on September 15, 1942, and raised in Bedford. She is the daughter of the late Nicholas Genetti and Josephine (Poleo) Genetti and sister of the late Paul Genetti. She graduated from Bedford High School in 1960 and attended Rivier University in Nashua, New Hampshire where she graduated with a degree in Biology in 1964.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 56 years Donald Bailey, whom she married in 1968. The couple resided in Lexington and enjoyed summers with family, extended family, and many friends over the years at the Bailey family lake house in Northwood, New Hampshire.

Barbara is also survived by her three sons and their wives: Chris and Lisa Bailey of Windham, New Hampshire, Scott and Wendy Bailey of Derwood, Maryland, and Michael and Lisa Bailey of Bedford, Massachusetts. A proud grandmother of five grandchildren, Barbara enjoyed spending time playing games, baking cookies, and telling stories with Alex (23), Nicholas (21), Morgan (19), Joseph (17), and Kyle (14) as well as her nieces, nephew, goddaughter, and their families. She also was an avid Boston sports fan and would cheer for any college team a son, daughter-n-law, or grandchild attended.

For over 40 years, Barbara worked as a medical technologist at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. Thirty of those years were on nights from 11 PM - 7 AM. A lover of all children, she spent nearly 50 years volunteering for the Massachusetts State PTA including serving as President from 1993-1995 and most recently as Membership Coordinator. Barbara and Don enjoyed traveling the country over the years to attend National PTA conventions. A devout Catholic, Barbara also served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years at Saint Brigid Parish in Lexington.

Visiting hours were held in Shawsheen Funeral Home on Friday, April 19, 2024. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday morning, April 20, 2024 in St. Michael's Church in Bedford, followed by burial in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford. A reception followed in Bedford's American Legion Post #221.

In lieu of flowers and in honor of Barbara's devotion to advocating for children and education, the Bailey family asks that you consider a donation to the Cranberry PTA Scholarship fund that has been graciously created in her name by the Massachusetts PTA:
