Alden P. French, a retired Lieutenant of the Bedford Police Department, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family and friends on May 18, 2021. Alden was pre-deceased by his first wife Claire, his older sister Lois and her husband Howard, and his beloved mother and father, Earl and Marion French. He is survived by his loving partner of 44 years Susan White; his five children, David French and his wife Sharon, Diane Ceraolo and her husband Richard, Tim French and his wife Patty, Jeff French and his wife Christine, and Kristen McDermott and her husband Ian. Alden is also celebrated by his grandchildren, Christopher; Tim Jr. and his wife Kerrie; Mary Flannigan and her husband Ryan; Alexandria and her husband Johnathan; Michael, Shaun, Ashley, Daniel, Kurt, and Ryan. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Savannah, Kaylie, RJ, Madison, McKenzie, Cameron, Felicity Rose, and Andrew. Additionally, he is survived by his younger brother Robert and his wife Sybil. It should be noted that he is also warmly remembered by his "golfing" family in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Alden has a long and compelling history that included serving and mentoring the following generations. Serving with the Army Reserves and then joining the Bedford Police Department resulted in having a "French" serving for 53 years. He also served the community by working as a tree warden for the towns of Wellesley and Lexington and running his own tree and landscape company, Alden's Tree and Landscape Service, which routinely featured his family learning new skills regularly. Visiting Hours were held in Shawsheen Funeral Home on Friday, May 21, 2021. The Funeral Service was on Saturday, May 22, 2021 in First Church of Christ Congregational in Bedford. Burial followed in Shawsheen Cemetery, Bedford.
