May 10, 1933 – November 23, 2024
Edward J. Shamon, son of the late Josephine (Haddad) and Elias Shamon and devoted husband of the late Patricia (MacEachern) Shamon, passed away on Saturday November 23, 2024 in his home of 60 + years in Bedford, MA.
He is survived by his loving partner, Judy Delaney; his children, Mark and his wife France Jordan of Medford, MA; Douglas and his wife Cheryl of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; Joel and his wife Michelle of Naples, FL; Andrea Pickersgill and her husband Paul of Westford, MA; Michael of Billerica, MA; and Pete and his wife Debbi of Westwood, MA. He was a proud grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and his sister-in-law Phillis MacEachern of Woburn, MA.
Edward is predeceased by his siblings, Anne Doty of West Sayville, NY; Thomas John Shamon of Woburn, MA; and Bernadette Shamon of Arlington, MA.
Edward was a devoted family man who found joy in coaching and watching his children's sports activities, attending traditional Broadway musicals, gardening, playing cards, traveling, and gathering with family.
He earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in civil engineering from Northeastern University and proudly served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Edward began his career as a facilities design engineer at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA. With dedication and skill, he rose to the role of Corporate Facilities Director for the Air Force's Electronic Systems Division, overseeing the construction of numerous innovative facilities at Hanscom Air Force Base.
After retiring from the Air Force, Edward continued his impactful career as Facilities Design and Construction Manager at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Tufts University, and Boston University.
"Ed" always thought of himself as a shy person, but is known, loved, and remembered for his big personality, sense of humor, and enduring legacy of kindness and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in Shawsheen Funeral Home on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024 between 4 PM and 7 PM. Funeral from Shawsheen Funeral Home on Monday Dec. 2, 2024 at 9:15am followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Michael's Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford at 10 AM. Burial in Shawsheen Cemetery and a commemorative luncheon at American Legion Post #221 in Bedford to follow.
